Glavkosmos celebrates its birthday
MOSCOW, May 23 – Glavkosmos (part of Roscosmos) is celebrating its 40th anniversary on Friday, May 23rd. On this special occasion, the company is traditionally congratulating veteran employees who were instrumental in the creation of Glavkosmos and have made significant contributions to its development.
The Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and the Council of Ministers of the USSR issued a special resolution on February 6, 1985. The document, among other things, determined the establishment of a special organization, which would regulate the development of space technology in the interests of the national economy and scientific research with the use of international cooperation.
To implement this resolution, on February 26, 1985, by the order of Oleg Baklanov, Minister of General Machine Building of the USSR, the task of creating such an organization was set. On May 23, 1985, Baklanov signed that order to create Glavkosmos of the USSR, and this date became the official birthday of the organization.
Over the 40-year history of the company, Glavkosmos has had the privilege of participating in projects that have been significant for the Russian rocket and space industry. It was the first organization in the world to launch a commercial spaceflight participant, and it has participated in the training of foreign astronauts for crewed missions. The company has participated in large-scale projects to launch payloads on Russian rockets from foreign spaceports and has worked on the deployment of multi-satellite constellations.
Glavkosmos also took part in the creation of the first full-length feature film "The Challenge," which was filmed on the International Space Station, the company provided missions that set records for the number of satellites launched from the Russian cosmodromes.
Today, the enterprise’s assets include the expertise, knowledge, skills, and abilities of a highly efficient team of professionals. This team successfully combines the efforts of experts from Russia and other countries to promote the products and services of the Russian rocket and space industry on the global market.
