Glavkosmos presents the possibilities of the Russian space industry in Angola

MOSCOW, April 3. – Ilya Tarasenko, General Director of Glavkosmos JSC (part of Roscosmos State Corporation), presented the capabilities of the Russian space industry and some promising projects in space exploration at the international space conference NewSpace Africa in Luanda, Angola.

The CEO of Glavkosmos told the delegates of the conference about the opportunities that open up to African countries from cooperation with Russia in space exploration. Ilya Tarasenko stressed the prospect of positive socio-economic changes in the lives of the peoples of Africa as a result of space activities. "The solutions proposed by Glavkosmos and based on the results of space activities will not only reduce poverty, but also boost the quality of life of the population of African countries," he said. According to Tarasenko, "satellite technologies promoted by the company are able to increase agricultural productivity, improve public access to healthcare, improve the quality of education and professional training, improve control over the use of natural resources and facilitate access to financial services."

Moreover, the introduction of space technologies by African countries, he said, "will have an impact on improving human safety and the effectiveness of government activities – assistance in natural disasters and emergencies will become more timely, and satellite monitoring will help track infrastructure development and public spending to prevent corruption."

The conference NewSpace Africa 2024 is taking place in Luanda, the capital of Angola, from April 2 to 5, and its title is ‘The Role of Space in Closing Africa's Poverty Gap’.

The NewSpace Africa Conference is a high-level gathering for industry leaders, commercial space companies, investors and other key stakeholders in the African space and satellite industry. The conference is organized by the analytical agency Space In Africa and the international intergovernmental organization African Union.
